The Before-a laminate covered cedar chest. I decided to redo it after seeing a post on Sweet Pickins site. On her site she added extra wood to dress up a basic chest. The one I had, had some nice detail so I just painted it. I lightly sanded it. Coated it with a layer of brown paint and then lightly brushed the off-white layer. I made sure to leave some of the brown exposed; especially on the edges. On this piece I actually painted some brown on after I finished because I didn't feel it was distressed enough. I found a font I liked and printed the numbers. I traced the outline on the chest and lightly brushed the brown on. Finished Product The final step was to drill two holes in the front of the lid. I then tied knots on the front and inside to secure the handle. |
